A used car search can be quite an undertaking. Especially if you’re new to the whole thing.
Searching For Cheap Old Used Cars
The first thing you should do, is to make up your mind about what kind of car you would like to purchase.
Make sure to be on the lookout for anyone who’s buying a new car while still holding on to his old car. Always ask around in your own network of family and friends. This network will come in handy, as you will likely not be lied to about the history of the car. And even more important… the price.
If you can’t find any cheap old cars for sale in your own neighborhood (highly unlikely), don’t worry. A used car dealer would be the next logical step. Used cars from dealers are usually a little more expensive than the prevailing market price of the same model, a car that’s been maintained by a dealer can prove to be a good buy.
Usually, a used car dealer will offer you a guarantee on their cars. These guarantees range from six months to one year. There are also used car dealers who do not offer any guarantees. Prices for these used cars will more than likely be lower. Keep in mind that you might have to pay for repairs on the car within the year, as there are no guarantees. When buying a car without guarantee, you’re taking a chance.
It’s a trade-off that you need to consider before taking the plunge.
Finding A Used Car Dealer
Car dealers are easy to find. Check your Yellow Pages or do an Internet search for search terms such as “used car dealer” + “your area/town/city name” and you are likely to get some useful search results.
Everybody has a website these days and everybody wants to be found. I have never seen a dealership’s website that didn’t display its contact information on the website. Most of the time, you won’t find this contact info right on the front page. But the link to the contact page is almost always in the menu or in the sidebar.
Car dealerships almost always display their current cars for sale on the website. There is no more convenient way for you to browse cars than in the privacy and comfort of your own home.
When you find a car you like and the website says it’s still for sale, always give the dealer a call to ask him if the car really is for sale. Availability statuses are not always updated immediately. You can save yourself a trip this way.
